A closer look at the Tour of Silchester

To celebrate the reveal of our brand new sportive for 2023, the Tour of Silchester, we took a look into what about the event makes it so unique and why you should be considering entering today.

The event features in mid-summer for 2023, taking place on Sunday 9th July, providing riders with an ideal mid-summer training goal. The event HQ will be at Yateley United FC, an ideal facility that helps us deliver the quality of service we’ve come to be known for.

The routes

For this edition we’re offering a 30 and 50 mile option, ensuring there’s a route available that suits yet still challenges almost any fitness level.

Once leaving Yateley, the route heads west, skirting the Hampshire/Berkshire border. In true Hampshire Tour Series fashion, we’ve used our local knowledge to connect a network of peaceful country roads. After winding its way along the border, the routes split after 16 miles, with the shorter 30 mile route looping back round and heading East toward home for along some more rolling roads.

Meanwhile, the 50 mile route heads to the centre point of the sportive, the ancient Roman settle of Silchester. After the Roman conquest of AD 43, the settlement became the large and important town also known as Calleva Atrebatum. It’s ancient walls and nearby ampitheatre still stand today, and there will be a welcomed water and cake stop at the site, allowing you to take in the beauty of the area and take some welcome rest.

After leaving the feed stop, the route heads back East through another network of stunning Hampshire lanes before heading back to HQ to catch up with your fellow riders and waiting family.
